Error: Data source name not found and no default driver specified

BusinessObjects Enterprise XI

Synopsis

A Universe is successfully imported from BusinessObjects 6.x to BusinessObjects Enterprise XI using the Import Wizard. When attempting to create a BusinessObjects Web Intelligence document from the imported Universe, the following error message appears:

"Database error: [Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Data source name not found and no default driver specified. Contact your administrator or database supplier for more information. (Error: WIS 10901)" Why does this error message appear and how do you resolve it?

Solution

This error message appears because the Enterprise XI Import Wizard does not create the necessary system DSN on your computer.

To resolve this error message create the identical system DSN that was on the BusinessObjects 6.x computer. Use this system DSN to create a Web Intelligence document.
