Synopsis

When launching InfoView in BusinessObjects Enterprise XI the following error message appears:

"An error occurred during the processing of a configuration file required to service this request. Please review the specific error details below and modify your configuration file appropriately."

Parser Error Message: It is an error to use a section registered as allowdefinition='MachineToApplication' beyond application level. This error can be caused by a virtual directory not being configured as an application in IIS.

How do you resolve this error message?

Solution

To resolve this error message, create an application name for the BusinessObjects and InfoView virtual directories in Internet Information Services (IIS). To do this, perform the following steps:

• Launch IIS and expand the web site where Enterprise XI is installed.
• Right-click the BusinessObjects virtual directory and click 'Properties'.
• On the 'Virtual Directory' tab, click the 'Create' button beside 'Application name'.
• Click 'Apply' and then 'OK'.
• Expand the BusinessObjects virtual directory.
• Right-click the InfoView virtual directory and click 'Properties'.
• Repeat steps 3 and 4.

Upon completing these steps, you can successfully start InfoView.
