Logistics

Logistics is defined as the time-related positioning of resources, and is among the most critical elements of military strategy. Business intelligence solutions benefit military and other government operations staff through the improved ability to share supply chain, logistics, and procurement information among government agencies, suppliers, and alliance members. They can stop wasting time searching for and making sense of logistics data residing in disparate systems and focus on capturing the current status of operations and inventory in a unified view. This improved visibility into the process and the ability to monitor the dynamic factors affecting logistics decisions is the essence of Supply Chain Management (SCM), and promotes the primary objective of having the right quantity at the right place at the right time for the right price.

Data Management Group has helped military organizations make great strides toward consistently achieving this objective time and again. Examples of this success include solutions deployed for the Military Sealift Command and the Defense Logistics Agency.

Military Sealift Command – Improved activation readiness and enabled identification of logistics issues, forecasting and usage analysis through implementation of business intelligence tools interfaced with numerous MSC data repositories. MSC can now use secure, web-based dashboards to readily identify material shortages, perform acquisition tracking, analyze requisitions, and track events related to emergency on-site care for U.S. combat forces.

Defense Logistics Agency – Enabled DLA managers and administration staff to more rapidly assess and respond to the extreme quantities of data (terabytes) being processed by DLA every day by providing analytic access to critical data via 300+ near real-time Crystal Reports. DLA personnel now have access to meaningful information on material procurement and management, sales and distribution, and cost and profit centers, and DLA has achieved yet another important milestone within their massive Business Systems Modernization effort.
