Synopsis

How can you show more data in a report than you have space for?

Background
Often times a report designer is faced with the tough problem of getting all of the data they want onto the page of a report.

For example: Lets say you were creating a report that listed order items per each customers order, but you are having to squeeze too many columns into the report which is causing fields to either be cut off or to wrap to more than one line, both of which you want to avoid.

Solution
You can use the Tool Tip Text via any fields Format Editor to display long text strings or even several fields combined together. Then when a user is vieweing the report they can hover their mouse cursor over the field to view the extra information.
  • To do this right click on any field, or object, within the report and select Format Field.
  • Then select the Common tab.
  • Then click on the Format Formula Workshop button on Tool Tip Text.
  • Enter any combination of strings and fields you want the user to be able to see.

Use this for situations where your user does not need this information to be printed but rather a quick reference to the row or field the user is interested in.
