Solution
2-tier in BusinessObjects 5.x and 6.x only:
  • The deployment does not require a HTTP/Application server.
  • Desktop Intelligence can be launched from the client only.
  • The login connectivity uses .intranet files under C:\Documents and Settings\USER\My Documents\My Business Documents\LocData.
  • You need middleware installed and configured on the client machine to the corporate data.
  • The query is run from the client machine by the busobj process.

3-tier in Desktop Intelligence XI Release 2:

  • The deployment requires a HTTP/Application server.
  • Desktop Intelligence can be launched from the client or server.
  • The login connectivity uses .extranet files under C:\Documents and Settings\USER\My Documents\My Business Documents\LocData.
  • You do not need middleware installed and configured on the client machine to the corporate data.
  • The SQL is passed from the client to the server and the query is run from the server by the ConnectionServer process.
